Bedsure Orthopedic Dog Bed

Getting Started

The Bedsure Orthopedic dog bed arrived in a box that measured 12”x 17” x 7”. Inside were two plastic wrapped pieces. One was the egg crate foam cushion; the other was the gray velvet fabric cover. They were very tightly wrapped but were easy to open with a pair of scissors. It was easy to get the foam inside the fabric cover with the large zipper opening along two sides of the cover. The cover is a soft, velvety polyester fabric that is washable. The foam layer also has a zippered waterproof cover that can be removed and washed. There were no offensive smells to either the fabric or the foam layer.

Design

The design and quality of the bed look very nice. There are 16 colors to choose from. The color of the gray one is true to the photograph.

Performance

The large size is not quite big enough for my 55 pound golden retriever. The size is listed as 35”x 25”x 6.5” for a large. This is true of the entire bed including the bolsters. The actual sleep area is much smaller. This information is listed further into the product listing but I did not see that. The sleep area is listed as 20” x 26.5. That is also true if you measure to the very front of the opening of the bed. The actual area between the bolsters where most dogs would lay, not counting the opening, measures 17” x 26”. She can fit in the sleeping space only when she is curled up into a tight ball. The Large Plus or Extra Large would have been a better fit for my dog when she wants to sleep stretched out. The underside of the bed has a non-skid bottom consisting of little buttons of a rubber like material. I tested this on our luxury vinyl tile flooring and it did not move. Both covers are removable and washable. However, the stuffing in the bolster sections is not removable. If you use a heavy duty washing machine this would probably work. It could be too bulky for some home washing machines.

Quality

The seams are double stitched and done in a straight line with no gaps in the stitching. Both zippers opened and closed smoothly. The egg crate foam layer was quite flat immediately after opening but it did expand to the 3 inch specification overnight. Time will tell on the durability of the fabric. It looks pretty and seems durable but my dog is an historical bed destroyer so we will see how this holds up over time. She did have one wrestling match with the bed and so far the fabric and seams have remained intact.

Price

The listed price was $45.99. I have not purchased many nice beds for my dog because of her destructive habits. It seems like a reasonable price compared to dog beds I have considered at large box stores.

Final Verdict

I was excited to get my dog a nice new bed now that she is almost 11 and hopefully will not destroy it. I was disappointed that the size was not quite big enough for her. I would recommend this bed to a friend with the instructions to consider the size of the sleeping area and the suitable weight details very carefully before ordering. The other caution would be whether their washing machine could handle the bulkiness of the cover with the non-removable bolster stuffing.
