This Pup-ular Twin Cities Dog Beach Will Stay Open in 2018

white bear lake dog beach

Yip, yip, hooray: following its trial period last year, the White Bear Lake Dog Beach (Matoska Park) is officially here to stay! Wags to local dog lover Maren Holzinger for filling us in on the recent victory at the White Bear Lake city council meeting:

“The ‘temporary’ resolution status on the Matoska Dog Beach was removed; therefore the Dog Beach is no longer in danger of closing! The <30′ leash rule will still be in effect. The City Council is also going to begin looking at another potential [possibly better suited, more spacious] location option up the road for future beach expansion, as the Matoska Park area is indeed simply a unique location to be in the water with your dog, and is not a ‘dog park’ where dogs can run and play. This is exciting news for us as well, since we all want the beach to succeed and want to positively coexist in the surrounding neighborhood!

Our volunteers have since raked up all the muck at the shoreline and it’s gorgeous sand that is wonderful to walk on into the water with your pup!

I’m so happy to report this news to you, as we have had several members from the Sidewalk Dog family join our team to fight for the beach after they visited thanks to the info on your site!”

Three cheers to all the dog lovers who made this happen. Just one more reason to look forward to warm MN weather!

Good news! We all still need to be on our best behavior at the dog beach, of course, because it’s important to everyone, especially the folks who live in the neighborhood.
