In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic barred them from visiting their usual places, they turned to social media to keep sharing the love. In 2022, the couple adopted Emma, another Golden Retriever. Together, the family of four took to the skies, traveling to 7 countries and visiting deployed military members and fans. Today, they all continue their mission of spreading smiles around the world both in person and through social media.

8. @whataboutbunny

  • 1.5 million followers on Instagram
  • 340 thousand subscribers on YouTube

Bunny the Sheepadoodle took the world by surprise when her owner, Alexis Devine, uploaded videos to TikTok of her using programmable buttons to “speak.” The first button Bunny learned to use spoke the word “outside” when she pressed it with her paw. At the time of publishing, Bunny has reportedly learned over 50 words and can string broken sentences of up to 4 words together. Devine credits the work of Christina Hunger with her dog, Stella, for sparking her curiosity and motivating her to teach Bunny how to “talk.”

Bunny and Devine are now a part of the TheyCanTalk study, collaborating with FluentPet and researchers from the University of California, San Diego. The study aims to explore how non-human animals, like Bunny, can use language like communication through buttons. By examining Bunny’s progress, researchers hope to uncover how animals might develop language-like abilities through training and interaction. They anticipate the study will provide new insight into nonverbal communication that may lead to breakthroughs for non-verbal humans.
