The first signs of spring are in the air: melting snow, huge puddles, and surprise patches of ice are all around us. Whether the warmer weather “sticks” around or not, spring break is fast approaching, which means tons of humans will soon be en woof to warmer locales. If you don’t wanna fly with Fido but still want to be part of that lucky group enjoying a break from reality, why not try a dog-friendly staycation right here in Minneapolis?
This city has SO much to offer by way of pup-friendly staycations that you may find yourself wanting to stay in town once you get a sniff.
Here are some dog-stinations we recommend as part of your Minneapolis staycation itinerary:
WHERE TO STAY
In the heart of downtown you’ll find Radisson RED, whose dog-friendly features are outta this world. Not only are your four-legged kiddos allowed in nearly every part of the hotel, but they’ll score a RED bandana, a Fatboy Doggie Lounge Bed, and a food and water dish to use in your room upon arrival. And pet fee? What pet fee? Bringing your dog will cost you zero additional bones. Have your pooches pack their suitcases — dogs are always invited to the party at Radisson RED. Sidewalk Dog readers can also get 20% off their stay when booking it here — no promo code needed!
WHERE TO EAT + DRINK
Treat yourself to a small-batch craft brew or two at Inbound BrewCo, where they just so happen to allow dogs in their taproom. Food truck fare is available most days, and you can grab a growler or crowler to go. Inbound is just the tip of the snout when it comes to the Twin Cities’ dog-friendly brewery scene; check out our full list here.
Hungry for a full meal? Not only do The Howe Daily Kitchen & Bar and Stanley’s NE Bar Room have heated, covered patios that welcome dogs in the colder months, they also have a dog-friendly menu complete with Fido-friendly appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
WHAT TO DO
Minneapolis boasts tons of dog-friendly shopping options. For starters, try PARC boutique, featuring sleek women’s fashion with helpful, friendly staff and a bright, inviting brick-and-mortar shop. Carver Junk Company is another dog-friendly fave, offering refinished furniture, vintage treasures, home decor, and locally handmade gifts.
If the finicky spring weather allows, try a hike at the gorgeous Fort Snelling State Park. Their 18 miles of trails smack dab in the middle of the Twin Cities will give you and your four-legged BFF those middle-of-nowhere feels without leaving town.
For an off-leash experience, locals rave about Minnehaha Dog Park. If that’s already in your wheelhouse, try something new this spring — the Twin Cities area has a whopping 60 of ’em — with more on the way!
