Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This week’s adoptable pooch is sponsored by The Urban Dog and Pet Connections.
Stats: 4-year-old, 7-lb Rat Terrier
Rescue: Secondhand Hounds
Time in foster: 2 years
Location: Twin Cities
SWD: Lookit this tiny adorable guy! Tell us what you love about Sanchez.
SHH: He’s our little cutie pie! Sanchez is a medium-energy dude who loves going for walks with his people. He’s crate trained and good with other dogs. He’s also VERY food motivated. Will work for treats!
SWD: Sounds like our kind of guy! What’s his special need?
SHH: Sanchez has been in rescue for nearly two years. Despite his dashing good looks and good behavior, he seems to keep getting passed by! He had heartworm when he first came in, but recovered like a champ and is more than ready to meet his forever family.
SWD: It’s so hard to see them wait! But we know he’ll find his home soon. Tell us more fun stuff about this pupperino.
SHH: Aside from his aforementioned love for eating, Sanchez’s other favorite hobby is playing with his beloved pink bone toy. He could play fetch with that all day! He also enjoys napping on the bed — he’ll bury himself under the blankets. When he wakes up, he likes to have his back scratched. (Who doesn’t?) And as we mentioned, Sanchez loves — we mean LOVES — treats. Combined with his smart Terrier brain, this means he’s ready, willing, and able to learn all sorts of tricks. The sky is the limit when it comes to training him!
SWD: He sounds like such a great companion. What would make the perfect home for Sanchez?
SHH: He gets along well with people and other dogs, so he would do great in a variety of homes. We do recommend that if his new home has kiddos, they’re respectful — he doesn’t like to feel trapped. He loves being the center of attention and is eager to please. We can’t wait to see Sanchez thrive in his forever home!
