Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This week’s adoptable pooch is scooped up and served to you by ScoopyPoo DoggyDoo PickUp.
Stats: 5-year-old, 18-lb Terrier mix
Time in foster: 6 months
Location: Twin Cities
Rescue: Southwest Metro Animal Rescue
SWD: Aww, just look at this snuggly cutie. Tell us about Munchkin!
SMAR: Munchkin is such a sweet, gentle dog. Some of her favorite people in the world are her foster’s grandchildren. As you can see, they love her right back! When she’s not wooing kiddos, she loves playing fetch and keepaway with her cactus toy, going for walks, and sleeping under the covers with her foster.
SWD: The whole dog-and-kiddo friendship thing is so darn irresistible. She sounds like a total delight. What’s her special need?
SMAR: Munchkin is slightly anxious, so she feels more comfortable when she has a predictable daily routine in place. She takes her time warming up to new people, but once she gets to know someone she loves to show off her affectionate personality.
SWD: We can tell that she’s worth every bit of time it takes to earn her trust. What other fun stuff can you share about Munchkin?
SMAR: On cold mornings Munchkin will go back to bed after her walk and breakfast. (Yes, we’re jealous!) If her foster has already made the bed, Munchkin will take the time to kick the pillows out of the way and climb right in. During times when she’s feeling more ambitious, she practices her squirrel-chasing skills. She’s convinced she’ll catch up to one someday.
SWD: Get ’em, girl. What would make the perfect home for her?
SMAR: Munchkin would adore having a home with human kids around, since she’s so wonderful with them. (No cats, if you please.) Ideally her family would be home more than away; she does well with her foster parents being gone five hours per day. We can’t wait to meet the lucky family who brings her into their home — she’s going to make a fabulous family pet.
