Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Stats: 10-month-old, female Newfoundland Dog
Location: Twin Cities, MN
Rescue: Minnesota Newfoundland Rescue
Sidewalk Dog: What a lady! Tell us about Maddie.
Minnesota Newfoundland Rescue: Maddie is incredibly sweet and playful!
A favorite activity is playing with tennis balls by pouncing on them and then immediately forgetting they exist. She also loves swimming, long walks, and playing with her foster siblings. She’s going to make an amazing companion for an active family who loves to be outdoors. She’s also such a gorgeous gray color!
SWD: Awww, let’s find her someone pawesome. What’s her special need?
MNR: Maddie had been a service dog candidate and came into rescue because she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia when standard X-rays were taken. However, it doesn’t impact her movement or cause any pain! She has no visible symptoms. Had the X-rays not been done as a matter of course, you’d never know. She also has slight anxiety, so her forever fam should be one that’s willing to help her out of her shell.
SWD: A service doggo in training sounds like an amazing adoptable. What kind of home would be a perfect fit for Maddie?
MNR: The best home for Maddie will be one with no children, or with older children who are big-dog savvy. She’d love to be part of an active family that enjoys walking and swimming. The home should have an attached physical fence at least four feet high, and the humans should be patient while she gains confidence in her new surroundings.

This dog’s story was made possible by some of the pup-loving-est daycares in the Twin Cities: Dog Days in St. Paul and the newly expanded Metro Dogs in the North Loop, which is now accepting new doggos! As one happy customer recently put it, “After working in the pet care industry for 8+ years, this is the only place I trust my pooches to. I’ve never met a more caring, compassionate, on the ball crew in my life. The grooming is incredible, too.” For dog’s sake, give ’em a call today!
