Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Stats: 10-month-old, 86-pound Great Dane
Location: Twin Cities
Rescue: Secondhand Hounds
Sidewalk Dog: Look at that noble hound! Tell us about Louis.
Secondhand Hounds: Louis loves going for walks and being outside. He eats snow in the winter, and just prances around outside without a care in the world. He’s also great on a leash. Oh, and don’t tell him he isn’t a lap dog, because he won’t believe you!
SWD: He sounds like the pawfect doggo! What are his special needs?
SHH: Louis is blind and deaf. He was born this way so he doesn’t know any differently, but he’ll need a family that’ll keep a close eye on him to be sure he’s safe.
SWD: Sounds like Louis just needs a little extra TLC.
SHH: Yep! He loves to snuggle and always wants to be close by his human to know he’s safe. We’ve been doing touch training with him and he knows a tap on the chin means time to eat and a tap on his foot means there are stairs in front of him. We’re also working on other cues as well. He’s so smart and eager to please.
SWD: What a smartypaws! So what else would make a furrific forever home for Louis?
SHH: He’s amazing with kids but due to his size, it might be hard to have him with a very small child as he could knock them down by accident. He doesn’t mind our cat at all and enjoys playing with our resident dogs. He is an absolute lover.

As one happy customer recently put it, “After working in the pet care industry for 8+ years, this is the only place I trust my pooches to. I’ve never met a more caring, compassionate, on the ball crew in my life. The grooming is incredible, too.” For dog’s sake, give ’em a call today!
