Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Stats: 2-year-old, 29-pound, spayed female Miniature Pinscher mix
Location: Twin Cities, MN
Rescue: Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue
Sidewalk Dog: Look at that good dog! Tell us about Kaira.
Wags & Whiskers: Kaira is a character. She stands on her hind legs to see what’s happening in the kitchen, and moos like a cow when it’s time for dinner. She is extremely gentle with people and animals, except squirrels! Faves include walks, squirrel hunting, and cuddling on the couch.
SWD: Furbulous interests. What’s her special need?
W&W: Kaira is painfully shy with humans she does not know, and will need someone who will be patient in helping her out of her shell.
SWD: Sounds like she needs a little TLC. What else would make the perfect home for Kaira?
W&W: The best home for Kaira will be one with a female primary caregiver and a fenced area for her potty duties. She would likely be gentle with cats and kids, but it may take awhile for her to warm up to them, which could be hard for young kids to understand. Her forever family will need patience to win her trust and help her with her shyness. She has great potential and even now is very well behaved out and about in stores and on patios and walks.

This dog’s story was made possible by some of the pup-loving-est daycares in the Twin Cities: Dog Days in St. Paul and the newly expanded Metro Dogs in the North Loop, which is now accepting new doggos! As one happy customer recently put it, “After working in the pet care industry for 8+ years, this is the only place I trust my pooches to. I’ve never met a more caring, compassionate, on the ball crew in my life. The grooming is incredible, too.” For dog’s sake, give ’em a call today!
