Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This week’s adoptable pooch is sponsored by The Urban Dog and Pet Connections.
Stats: 3-year-old, 15-lb, male Miniature Pinscher mix (possibly with some Manchester Terrier in there)
Location: Twin Cities
Rescue: Angel of Hope Animal Rescue
SWD: Look at that sweet face! Tell us about Hershey.
AOH: This little guy originally came from a rescue in Texas that was over-capacity. He’s so loving and smart, and will do anything for a treat. He’s also a big fan of ear rubs, and wants to cuddle as much as possible.
SWD: Hershey seems like such a pleasure to be around! What’s his special need?
AOH: He’s still pretty unsure about strangers—he can’t go to adoption events because he gets overwhelmed by the big dogs and loud sounds.
SWD: So the family in his forever home will have to be pretty patient—that sounds doable! What other fun facts can you share with us?
AOH: Hershey LOVES toys. He likes to hoard them. He has a lot of energy and loves running around and playing. He has also learned to wear boots and a sweater, which is super cute. He’s a big fan of sleeping while all snuggled up—good blankets are a must.
SWD: He sounds like so much fun. What does an ideal home look like for him?
AOH: I think Hershey would really thrive in a home with lots of structure, training, and exercise. He would do best as the only pet, but he has gotten along with small dogs and cats in the past. If the home has kids, I think Hershey would be more comfortable with older children and teenagers who know to give him some space when he needs it.
SWD: That sounds great! Anything else you’d like us to know about Hershey?
AOH: He’s such a sweet pup. Hershey takes a little while to warm up to new people, but getting to know him is SO worth it. He looks up at me so lovingly when he’s snuggling next to me on the couch – he’s got such a goofy, sweet face! I think Hershey would be such a great addition to a loving home.
