Special Dog Seeks Special Home: Gomer (AKA the World’s Cutest Meatball)

Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This week’s adoptable pooch is sponsored by The Urban Dog and Pet Connections.

Name: Gomer

Stats: 7-year-old, 60-lb Sharpei-Bulldog mix

Shelter: Animal Ark (the terrific beneficiary for our Yappy Hour on 8/1!)

Time in shelter: 2 years

Location: Twin Cities

SWD: Well hello, cutie! Tell us what you love about Gomer.

AA: Gomer is such a ham. He is a very sweet boy with a lot of energy and the biggest personality we have ever seen in a dog. He has the biggest and squishiest cheeks EVER!

SWD: We’re suckers for a blocky-headed beefcake! What’s his special need?

AA: Gomer is a strong dog with a lot of energy; sometimes he can be a little too much for other dogs. (Kitties are a no-go as well.) He knows how to throw his weight around when he wants something, so he’s looking for a home that will continue to give him the training and structure he craves.

SWD: We know that home is out there! Tell us more fun stuff about the big guy.

AA: Gomer loves — we mean LOVES — water. If he finds a puddle big enough, he has to lay in it. He’s obsessed with kiddie pools and would love nothing more than to chill in one on hot summer days. He is the perfect dog for someone who loves to just hang outside soaking up the sun.

SWD: He sounds like such a joy to be around! Anything else people should know about Gomer?

AA: He’s a goofball: When his favorite volunteers visit the shelter, he’ll smoosh his face onto the glass, make whining noises, and smile (show his little teeth) until they come into visit with him. He loves walks and can entertain himself when bored by rolling around on the couch making funny noises. Speaking of which, he’ll also make the cutest little snorting noises when he is playing with you, especially if you’re playing with a tug toy. Gomer will be an absolute gem of a dog for the right family!
