Special Dog Seeks Special Home: Bowser the Bulldog

Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This week’s adoptable pooch is sponsored by The Urban Dog and Pet Connections.

Name: Bowser

Stats: 5-year-old, 50-lb English Bulldog

Rescue: Twin Cities Pet Rescue (the outstanding beneficiary for our Yappy Hour on 7/18!)

Time in foster: 5 months

Location: Twin Cities

_____________

SWD: We’ve rarely seen such an irresistible face. Tell us everything.

TCPR: Bowser can be summed up in three words: Chunky. Love. Muffin. He is crazy about humans and greets everyone he meets with a kiss and a butt wag. It’s simply impossible not to smile at this guy when you meet him!

SWD: We’re already grinning jowl to jowl. What’s his special need?

TCPR: Bowser joined the TCPR family in February when he was found as a stray in Texas and hitched a ride all the way up to the great state of Minnesota. We discovered quickly that Bowser was heartworm positive. Heartworm disease is potentially fatal if not caught and treated quickly. The recovery process is not always easy for dogs, either. Bowser has been recovering from his heartworm disease like a champ, though, and is quickly gaining back his energy and lust for life. He loves snuggling with his foster mom and enjoys trips out and about in the neighborhood where he is doted on by everyone he meets.

SWD: Holy moly! He’s been through a lot. Tell us more fun stuff about this lovable little chunk.

TCPR: Since heartworm had limited his activity, he hasn’t yet had the joy of going on long walks or playing much. He is a goofy guy with lots of energy, though, so we’re sure he’ll love a good game of fetch or a long walk with his people. He’s already getting more and more active now that he is feeling better and loves running around his yard smelling the flowers and rolling in the grass. He enjoys sitting on the furniture in his foster home and watching the world go by. When he catches his reflection in the glass, he surely must see a Doberman looking back at him because he acts like a tough guard dog. When people come in to the house, however, he is all love and kisses. His tough guy act doesn’t fool anyone! He doesn’t pass up an opportunity to nap in the sun, either.

SWD: Our kind of guy. Anything else people should know about Bowser?

TCPR: Bowser is a low-maintenance, fully potty-trained dude. He would do well in a home with dog-savvy kids and a respectful dog (no cats, if you please). He makes us laugh on a daily basis just by being his goofy self. He has an adorable habit of spreading out on the bed and digging his nose in the blankets while making a goofy snorting sound. It’s too adorable not to laugh at! Bowser’s been through a lot but we know the next chapter of his story includes finding a forever family to love and snuggle him.
