Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Stats: 2-year-old, 32-pound, male Beagle mix
Location: Twin Cities, MN
Rescue: Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue
Sidewalk Dog: First of all can we talk about that howl? I mean it’s basically operatic.
Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue: It is so fun to hear Arturo’s bay! We never heard him bark or howl when we first got him. He was in such pain but he never let onto it. Now that he is feeling better, his hunting nose has come out. He is such an easy foster dog. He blesses you with kisses and cuddles and he’ll brighten your day with his hound howls.
SWD: That pic alone has already brightened my day. What’s his special need?
WW: Arturo has environmental allergies. When he first came to us as an owner surrender, he had lost most of his fur around his neck, ears, and face. We’ve spent hours upon hours at a veterinary dermatologist and finally have a regimen that works for him. His medication costs approximately $200 per month.
SWD: So he needs someone who’ll invest in his continued comfort.
WW: Exactly. Arturo is also allergic to cats (one of his many allergies) so he can’t live with a cat. Other than that, he’s perfect! He’s good with other dogs and kids, has a sweet disposition, and loves a good post-walk nap.

As one happy customer recently put it, “After working in the pet care industry for 8+ years, this is the only place I trust my pooches to. I’ve never met a more caring, compassionate, on the ball crew in my life. The grooming is incredible, too.” For dog’s sake, give ’em a call today!
