Getting Started

The Ruffwear Front Range Dog Harness arrived in easy-to-open packaging and was on my dog in seconds. Slip over the head, clip-clip, done!

I was surprised at how well it fit without any adjusting and could tell right away that I ordered the correct size. When measuring my dog’s chest as the website guided me to do, it was recommended that I purchase an X-small for my dog.

He’s a 28-pound low-rider, kind of a short and stubby dude, so the thought of buying him an X-small anything didn’t seem to make sense. I took a chance by sizing up to the small instead and I’m glad I did.

There was some minor tightening that was needed to snug it up around his body, but I can’t imagine an X-small would have fit.

Design

I love the variety of color choices that were available in this harness. It took me a while to decide which one to buy, but I’m very happy with the Blue Moon color I chose.

It’s subtle enough to not be too flashy, but colorful enough to be bright and adds a pop of color to his fur. I like the whole design of this harness, it’s the perfect mix between handsome and rugged-looking… like a cool dog ready for a wild adventure at any moment!

Performance

When my dog is standing in place, this harness appears to fit great. The adjusting was a little challenging but this is common for me, I always seem to loosen things when trying to tighten them.

As he’s sitting patiently while I adjust it, it looks snug and form-fitting, but then when we start walking I see these gaps and I’m not sure how to eliminate them without making it too tight. I’m not sure if there are supposed to be gaps, but it would seem like that may cause some rubbing that could be uncomfortable when worn for long periods. Perhaps once he’s worn it more often, it will become more flexible and conform to his body better.

I love how easy it is to put on, but it’s a bit difficult to take off. It slips over his head quickly when going on, but when I go to take it off I have to pull pretty hard to get it back over his noggin!

Quality / Durability

The padding feels thick and well-made, though it’s a bit stiff straight out of the package. I think it will provide a good level of comfort to him once he’s worn it several times and had a chance to break it in. The clip for his leash is super solid and feels very reliable. I think this is a well-made harness that will last for years!

Price

At $49.95, this harness seems reasonably priced. It’s probably on the higher end as I think most harnesses of this similar style are in the $30-50 range. This harness in particular had an enormous amount of positive reviews and loyal customers, so I felt good about the price if it functions as well and lasts as long as other dog owners claim!

Final Verdict

After owning this harness for only a few days, I can say I would recommend it. It fits well, is fairly easy to adjust, and I think it’s only going to get even better as time goes on.

It seems very durable and with a few more walks and woodsy adventures, it should start to break in making it more flexible and comfy for long-lasting wear.
