Do you devour books as ferociously as your dog does Bacon Bits? Congrats bookworm, this article’s for you. Next time you find yourself on a walk, check this list to see if you’re by one of several dog-friendly Seattle bookstores! Odds are you are, and nothing completes a cold PNW day like the smell of a new book (and wet dog, of course).
1. Elliott Bay Book Company
If you’re using “bookstore” and “Seattle” in the same sentence, we’re willing to bet 7/10 times you’re talking about Elliott Bay Book Company. It’s our city’s most well-known bookshop for sure, open since 1973, and now located in the very heart of Capitol Hill. It has over 150,000 titles (new and used), and in the Before Times had an unparalleled schedule of author readings and events.
2. Twice Sold Tales
You won’t have to tell that tail twice to get to Twice Sold Tales! The Ballard bookstore specializes in rare, used, and out-of-print fiction books. They even have a nightly happy hour sale, where all books are 25% off when purchased between 6-7 p.m.!
3. Horizon Books
Open since 1971, Horizon Books is Seattle’s oldest and longest running independent used bookstore. Located in Capitol Hill, you and pup will find one of the largest and finest used books collections in Seattle! Horizon is taking COVID hours day by day depending on staffing availability and interest, so make sure to schedule an appointment to ensure an in-person visit. You can also always shop at their online store.
4. Metsker Maps
This one’s for the adventurers out there! And goodness are there a lot of them in Seattle! Metsker has been a fixture in the Pacific Northwest since, well, Charles Metsker himself started mapping the PNW in 1901! Now, Metsker’s Pike Place Market location is the go-to for travelers looking for anything from maps, to guidebooks, travel and geography books, posters, and more.
5. Oh Hello Again
Oh Hello Again is a puppy in the Seattle bookstore scene, but has made a splash! This cute Capitol Hill store specializes in classic children’s books, a passion for owner Kari Ferguson after receiving a postgraduate certificate in Children’s Literature. Consider us officially bookmarking this page for all our upcoming baby showers and kids birthday parties!
