Featuring colorful storefronts, restaurants, parks, and quirky historic homes, Denver’s beloved Baker neighborhood is a hip spot for hoomans and pups alike. We sniffed out 6 fun things to do with your dog to appreciate all that Baker (also known as South Broadway to those in the know) has to offer.
1. Novel Strand Brewing Company
Get hopped up at Baker’s fave boutique brewery, Novel Strand Brewing Company. Specializing in tasty small batch ales, this brewery also boasts friendly staff and food trucks parked nearby on most nights. Your woof will be welcomed (aka have his butt sniffed) by Novel Strand’s brewery dogs, Shoku and Sambusak.
2. Postino Broadway
Looking for a cozy, intimate dinner or brunch date? Take your date and doggo (no judgment if doggo is your date) and head to the cozy patio at Postino Broadway. Postino features $5 glasses of wine and pitchers of beer ‘til 5 p.m. weekdays and $25 bruschetta board and bottle of wine pairings on Mondays and Tuesdays after 8 p.m..
3. Vanderbilt Park
With ample grassy knolls, softball fields, walking paths, and a lakeside view, Vanderbilt Park provides a perfect stomping ground for your woof. Ok, we should probably tell you technically it’s located on the edge of Baker over the Platte River, but your dog won’t know the difference, will he? Keep your eyes peeled; the city’s working on developing plans for Baker’s own Vanderbilt Park East.
4. Banded Oak Brewing Company
Peak patio season is upon us (finally!), so head to Banded Oak Brewing Company to enjoy some brews. Reviewers rave about their spacious, shaded patio and selection of yummy wine barrel aged beers. We hear the staff offers tons of helpful recs for peeps and plenty o’ pets and water dishes for pooches.
5. Lucile’s Creole Cafe
Serving up delicious Southern-inspired brunch, Lucile’s Creole Cafe has a dog-friendly patio, but tell you fluffer she has to be on her best behavior. Diners ruv their fluffy New-Orleans style beignets, shrimp and grits, and biscuits and gravy. Lucile’s is a popular spot and they don’t take reservations, so be pup-ared to wait a bit on the weekends.
6. Printed Page Bookshop
Tucked in a charming Victorian house on South Broadway’s Antique Row, Printed Page Bookshop has perfected the art of a truly heavenly experience for bibliophiles and their pals. They feature an impressive collection of literature, including rare books, first editions, and tomes dating back to the 16th century. Dogs are allowed, but only when shop dog Izzy is off doo-ty. She doesn’t like to share her cuddles, and we can’t blame the good girl.
