What’s the point of Instagram if not to post pictures of the adorable, hilarious, and downright amazing things our dogs do? Whether it’s strutting down 16th Street Mall, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, or wearing your fave cat as a hat, here are some of our fave Colorado Instagram dogs living their best lives in the Mile High City.
1. @loki
Loki “the Wolfdog” has amassed more than 1 million followers. It all started back in 2012, when owner Kelly Lund brought the husky/arctic wolf/malamute mix home in the middle of a blizzard. Since then, their adventures–including backcountry snowboarding and seeing most of the western U.S., have even inspired a book, Wild Together.
When Remmi’s not chasing a ball into the water (her favorite activity), the mini Retriever with a case of wanderlust is chasing sunshine as golden as her fur. She also has the strongest bandana game we’ve ever seen.
3. @atlasthesam
The only thing more beautiful than a white-capped mountain might be the sight of this 1-year-old Samoyed frolicking through it (if you can spot him against the snow, that is!).
Being deaf and vision-impaired doesn’t stop double-merle Australian shepherd Kit from loving life with older brother Sutton by her side. As owner Emily says, “I want her to be seen as the trailblazer she is not despite her deaf and blindness but because she’s just a kick-ass dog that gets the opportunity to climb mountains with her friends every week.” When the duo aren’t exploring the trails, they’re fulfilling their duty as professional face-lickers.
Nell the mini Aussie and Winston the border collie will give you serious adventure envy. No matter the season or elevation, these pups have conquered some of the tallest peaks in the state and beyond.
Every dog who’s any dog has been featured on the Mile High Pooches account, which shares daily images of Denver’s furriest members of society playing fetch in Wash Park, supporting the hometown team in Broncos gear, and derping away on #tongueouttuesday.
Dogs get the paparazzi treatment on the Cheesman Bark account (a play on Denver’s Cheesman Park), a dog photography project launched in March 2018. Along with sweet snaps of resident floofs, founder Alex Hopes goes into the minds of the pups in front of the lens with captions like: “Argo, the 2yr old Shepherd mix. Will be staying in tonight with hot chocolate and Christmas movies. Plz do not disturb.” Same here, Argo. Same here.
This sassy, cheese-loving cavapoo is perhaps the most stylish dog in all of Colorado. Whether the occasion is Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Taco Tuesday, Biscuit (and sometimes her rescue-dog brother, Bud) has an outfit to match. For Halloween alone, we counted more than 30 different costumes. Now that’s impressive.
The Dumb Friends League is the largest community-based animal welfare organization in the Rocky Mountain region. On its official account, the nonprofit posts pictures of adoptable dogs almost daily, as well as information about fundraising events around town.
Who says a pupper and a purrer can’t be besties? Henry and his feline friend, Baloo, are rejecting the “fight like cats and dogs” stereotype with their humans, Cynthia and Andre. This pair does everything together, from fireside snuggling and camping, to paddleboarding, sleigh-riding, and hammocking.
Who would you add to the list? Woof at us in the comments!
