Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This week’s adoptable pooch is scooped up and served to you by Dog Days in St Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Stats: 7-year-old, 61-lb hound mix
Location: Twin Cities
Rescue: Safe Hands Animal Rescue
SWD: Just look at that sweet pup! Tell us about Tulip.
SHAR: Tulip is a sweet, loyal, silly girl with lots of personality. She enjoys frolicking with her three fur-siblings and loves to cuddle up with her humans. Plus she’s got a HUGE smile that shows up anytime she’s getting pats. Her foster family just adores her, and hopes she’ll find a forever family to snuggle up with on the daily. Did we mention she loves to cuddle?
SWD: She sounds like such a peach. What’s her special need?
SHAR: Tulip has a depressed immune system which causes her to get sick very easily. Because of this, her exposure to other dogs should be limited (though she’d love a fur-sibling or two!). She also has autoimmune issues that can cause itchy skin and lead to intense scratching, but she’s on two meds to help with that.
SWD: It sounds like Tulip just needs some TLC and a willing snuggle buddy!
SHAR: That’s right. In fact, her favorite place to be is cuddled up in your lap. But she’s also got a spunky, playful side! Her foster fam occasionally welcomes litters of foster puppies and Tulip just loves to chase them around, watch over them, and teach them how to play.
SWD: Oh fur cute! So what would make the perfect home for Tulip?
SHAR: This sweet gal’s forever home should include an experienced dog owner, but no children unless they’re older (the young ones are just a bit too fast and loud for her taste). She would be just fine with cats and would love another dog to play with. Ideally she would find someone who isn’t afraid of her special needs and loves to cuddle as much as she does.
