Special Dog Seeks Special Home: Ranger the Boxer Mix

Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.

Name: Ranger

Stats: 11-year-old, 80-pound, male American Staffordshire Terrier-Boxer mix

Location: Twin Cities, MN

Rescue: Animal Ark

Sidewalk Dog: What a hensome brindle boy! Tell us about Ranger.

Animal Ark: Tennis balls are life for this goofy pup, but he’s also the MASTER of freeing treats from his KONG. He’s a distinguished-looking gentleman who also has the fastest down-stay we’ve ever seen. He’s been a staff and volunteer favorite for years because of his sweet nature and excellent on-leash skills.

SWD: He sounds like the most amazing senior to adopt! What are his special needs?

AA: Ranger came to Animal Ark in 2014 after being surrendered to a local animal hospital because his owners could no longer provide vet care for him, even though he’s perfectly healthy. He just needs a home without cats, kids, or other dogs. June 18, 2020 will mark *six years* that he’s been living in a kennel run, though he’s had many sleepovers with volunteers. We are truly hoping someone falls in love with him. He deserves to be spoiled the rest of his days!

SWD: He just needs what every rescue dog needs: a loving home.

AA: Exactly! He’s quite polite indoors and only comes up on furniture when he’s invited. He’ll fetch a ball as long as someone will throw it. He also has a really cool trick: balancing both his front paws on a tennis ball.

This dog’s story was made possible by some of the pup-loving-est daycares in the Twin Cities: Dog Days in St. Paul and the newly expanded Metro Dogs in the North Loop, which is now accepting new doggos! As one happy customer recently put it, “After working in the pet care industry for 8+ years, this is the only place I trust my pooches to. I’ve never met a more caring, compassionate, on the ball crew in my life. The grooming is incredible, too.” For dog’s sake, give ’em a call today!
