Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups looking for loving homes. This adoptable pooch is scooped up and brought to you by Dog Days in St. Paul and Metro Dogs in the North Loop. See why they’re so grrreat at the end of this story.
Update: Nucky was adopted. Thanks for sharing his story!
Stats: 3-year-old, 75-pound male Pit Bull Terrier mix
Location: Twin Cities
Rescue: The Rescue Crew
Sidewalk Dog: Holy Milk-Bones, how is he so cute?! Tell us about Nucky.
The Rescue Crew: He LOVES training, and his facial expressions crack us up every day. Sometimes we think he is really a person in a dog suit.
SWD: What a champion. What are Nucky’s special needs?
TRC: Nucky resource guards some odd things, like Kleenex. He needs a structured home that can keep things like trash tucked away. He needs to be fed separately from other animals, and food bowls must not be left out along with other high value food items. He gives you what you invest in to him. He’s got a silly personality and enjoys his walks and finding a sunny spot to nap.
SWD: OK, so will gib a lifetime of silliness for one clean ‘n structured house. Got it. What else makes him special?
TRC: If you don’t enjoy training and want a couch potato, this is not the dog for you. He enjoys daily walks, training, playing tug, and then lounging the afternoon away.
SWD: I love a dog who knows what he likes. What type of home would be a great fit for Nucky?
TRC: Nucky’s ideal home has older children, dogs or cats, and of course adult people! He needs an owner who loves training as much as he does. After taking a walk, doing some training, and maybe chasing a ball or two, he’ll snuggle with you on the couch and binge watch whatever you choose.

This dog’s story was made possible by some of the pup-loving-est daycares in the Twin Cities: Dog Days in St. Paul and the newly expanded Metro Dogs in the North Loop, which is now accepting new doggos! As one happy customer recently put it, “After working in the pet care industry for 8+ years, this is the only place I trust my pooches to. I’ve never met a more caring, compassionate, on the ball crew in my life. The grooming is incredible, too.” For dog’s sake, give ’em a call today!
