A Daycare Your Dog Will Go Nuts For

Picking a daycare and boarding facility can be stressful: Will your dog be safe? Loved? And have fun, too? We’re here to help with a series highlighting the pup-lovingest daycares and boarding facilities in the Twin Cities and beyond.

Mutt Nuts
Mutt Nuts is a huge, gorgeous North Metro daycare offering ample square footage and a convenient location (just off I-94 and Highway 81). This family-owned biz, founded and operated by the Louks/Nelson family, features cozy, personal touches to make your pooch feel right at home — including 24-hour staffing.

Give the doggies what they (and you) want
For the staff at Mutt Nuts (editor’s note: best name ever), a glee for all things dog is front and center. Tiffany Louks explains, “We chose the name because it truly describes who we are: mutt nuts! We love ALL dogs: big, little, pedigree, mixed-breed, young, old, sweet, shy, and even sassy. Our name may be strange, but it makes people smile and want to chat about their pups. That smile, while simple, is just one of the ways we share joy with our fellow dog owners.”

The features that set Mutt Nuts apart in the daycare and boarding scene include large play spaces (10,000 square feet and more than two acres of land), small daycare groups divided by play style and energy level, a groomer with 30+ years of experience, and a veterinarian who pops in to provide vaccinations per customer request and address minor concerns like ear infections.

Their spacious boarding rooms are cage-free, and because Mutt Nuts has staff on-site 24 hours a day, late-night slumber parties among the four-legged campers are encouraged. (It’s up to your dog whether to bring her pajamas and teddy bear.)

At Mutt Nuts, relationships are central — not just between staff and clients, but between owners and their dogs. “We love helping pups and their parents have great relationship with one another. Every pet family faces unique challenges, and we can offer tailored solutions for issues specific to new puppies, rescued dogs, and those common to dogs of any age and origin (ranging from bonding, training, food, toys, play, etc.). We strive to help people and pups maximize their happiness together,” Tiffany says.

The Hooman Perspective
Mutt Nuts enjoys many terrific reviews, and a hand-written card they received when clients Nicole, Nate, and their pup Dany needed to move to the East Coast speaks volumes:

“There are not adequate words to express our gratitude. (What do you say to people who have made your life profoundly better?) Dany is the dog she is today because of you. You opened your hearts to her, you loved her, you gave her a happy place that she looked forward to every day. Our family is better because of you and all that you do. Mutt Nuts is an amazing place. Thank you for loving our girl. We will miss you terribly.”

Tiffany tells us, “Their final day was a very sad day for all of us, but we are so proud of feedback like this, which reflects the level of care and depth of relationship we strive for at Mutt Nuts.”

We’ve been taking our Lucy to Mutt Nuts since she was 5 months old – and that was 3 years ago. Lucy LOVES going, she has many friends she plays with and the team at Mutt Nuts is great at putting together the right groups of dogs to play. Boarding with them is a breeze! We’ve tried other daycare facilities and Mutt Nuts is by far superior to all others. I recommend them to everyone I know!

I have two dogs that do daycare every week day and they love it! I love it too because my dogs are happy and the staff are the best. They really get to know the dogs and give them the experience that is good for them. Don’t hesitate in checking them out!

Mutt Nuts is the place to be! They have done wonders for my rescued shy girl. She was very scared when she first started daycare. The wonderful staff worked with her (and me) to give her consistency and a place she feels comfortable to play, romp, and just be a dog! She goes 1-2 days a week and I also give myself a break by dropping her off for a weekend sleep over once a month. Momma can have a night to myself with no guilt and she can play and enjoy!
